Amara & El Naar Haninah will teach two workshops on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Amara's Studio in Germantown, MD. The “Costuming on the Cheap” workshop is limited to 10 participants; the “Egyptian Stage Make-up” workshop to 8. The cost of each workshop is $30 or both for $50 prepaid by October 27, 2007 (checks OK). After this date, the cost is $35 each or $60 for both; cash or money order only. These workshops sold out in 2004 and 2005!

The morning (10 am - noon) Costume Workshop will be on “Costuming on the Cheap”. You do not have to know how to sew to benefit from this workshop. The following topics with examples shown will be discussed:

bulletWhat to look for in the regular stores, thrift stores, & various local ethnic clothing stores.
bulletName & address of vendors, suppliers, & stores.
bulletThe do’s & don’t’s for your individual figure type in costuming.
bulletMultiple uses of the hip scarf.
bulletHow to embellish your costume without ever picking up a needle & thread!
bulletVarious styles of folkloric costumes & jewelry found in North Africa, the Middle East, & Central Asia.
bulletWhat makes a costume truly “Oriental”.

The afternoon (2 - 4pm) Egyptian Stage Make-up Workshop covers professional make-up for those wishing to present a professional image while performing. Workshop participants need to bring the following items with them:

bulletkleenex, cotton balls, q-tips, make-up sponges, eyebrow brush
bulletmake-up remover or cleanser, facial moisturizer, heavy eye cream
bulletkohl pencil or eye liner, mascara, eyebrow pencil (kohl pencil may be used instead), all in dark brown or black – no blues, greens, etc allowed!
bullet3 shades of neutral matte eye shadow ranging from dark to medium in color
bulletfoundation, rouge/blush, concealer, face powder
bulletdark red/plum lip liner & lipstick + a medium shade of lipstick – no pastels!
